Pan Fried Buns |
Ingredients:
- 1 cup of warm water
- 1 table spoon dry yeast
- 3 cups of general purpose flour
- 1/8 lb dry pork meat (available in most Chinese grocery stores)
Preparation time: 15 minutes
Cooking Time: 15 minutes
Servings: 12 buns
Cooking Steps
.
1. Instead of steaming the buns, use pan frying technique. Add 1 tablespoon vegetable oil to a non sticky pan.
2. Add the buns evenly to the pan, use high heat, use a transparent cover to cover the pan. Let the buns cook for about 1-2 minutes, be sure to monitor the process, check if the bottom of the buns have turned golden brown.
4. Once the buns bottom turns golden brown, add 1/8 cup of water to the pan, cover the pan, still use high heat, monitor the process for 2-3 minutes.
5. Once the water is gone (you can hear the sizzling noise, it means the water is almost all gone), turn heat to medium, flip the buns to cook the other side, cover the pan, let the buns to cook for another 2-5 minutes.
Tip
The cooking time depends on the filling, if using fully cooked filling (such as dry pork meat, red bean paste, cream cheese etc, the time can be shorter. If the filling has raw meat (such as ground pork, shrimp, etc), need to cook the buns longer in step 5, use low heat to avoid burning the buns bottom.
